Art 15 - Design and Color

The Color Wheel

All colors are made up of three primary colors Red, Yellow, and Blue. These colors can be mixed to produce secondary colors Orange, Violet, and Green. Secondary and primary colors mix to make tertiary colors, Yellow-green, Yellow-orange, Blue-green, Blue-violet, Red-violet, and Red-orange.

White mixed into a color makes tints, Black mixed into a color makes shades, Gray mixed into a color makes tones. Complementary colors are opposite in position on the color wheel and produce high contrast. Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel and produce little contrast.

Hue = Color

Value = the lights and darks of a color
