Drawing Assignments
Throughout the semester you will be required to draw in order to develop your sketching and modeling skills. The following are examples of different kinds of drawing techniques, all of which will be covered in class.
These are simple black and white silhouettes, the only definition is the contrast between the black area and white space. The result has very high contrast.
These are outline drawings, where the black line creates the only definition of form. The result has low contrast.
These drawings are modeled, where the pencil was used in a way that creates different values, or lights and darks, to create definition. The result can be low or high in contrast, depending on your use of the medium.
This is an ink wash drawing, using a brush. This medium, like other liquid paints, allows for delicate variations in lights and darks.
