Course Syllabus:
This foundation studio course is designed to introduce the principals of two-dimensional
design and color theory. Assignments deal with line, shape, texture,
space, color, illusion, and composition. Students are encouraged to
develop their visual perception, artistic vocabulary, and presentation
skills. Students have the opportunity to experiment with a variety
of media and learn the basics of professional presentation.
Class Rules:
Students are expected to have a professional, serious attitude. Lateness
and absences will not be tolerated; you must show up in time and to all
classes. Assignments must be handed in by the deadline given and be up
to professional standards; I expect you to treat your work with respect.
This is a college-level course, designed to prepare you for a career in
the commercial arts – you must be responsible, dedicated, and professional!
Grade Evaluation:
- Punctuality and Attendance as per College policy.
- Participation in class discussions, taking notes on terms and concepts.
- Application and exploration of concepts and techniques covered in class.
- Demonstration of creative problem-solving and artistic growth.
- An attitude of experimentation and a willingness to make revisions.
- Timely completion of all course assignments.
Required Materials:
- 14”X17” Bristol pad
- Jar of rubber cement
- Rubber cement and pick-up square
- X-acto knife, and refill blades
- An assortment of pencils, e.g. 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B
- Plastic eraser
- Razor-point Pilot pen (black)
- Black Sharpee marker
- Roll of masking tape
- T-square ruler 18” or 24"
- Set of Acrylic paint (at least 5 colors)
- Assorted watercolor brushes (at least 3 sizes)
- 12" X 18" cutting mat
- 18” X 24” Portfolio
