| Assignment # 1 – Gray Scale and Values As light is reflected from an object, an array of values from light to dark is seen on the surface of that object. Light distribution follows the angle from which the light is coming, the smaller the angle the more light is reflected. This translates itself into an infinite number of different values of light. For artistic purposes this can be broken down into fewer, more definite values, the most basic of which are black and white. Find a high res photo of a flower with considerable contrast. You will then reproduce this photo using 4 different techniques: outline, pencil, collage, and paint. First, divide a sheet of bristol into four. Using tracing paper, trace the shape of your flower and transfer it four times onto your bristol paper. For the outline drawing use your marker, and use your gouache for the paint. The collage will be a cutout silhouette of your flower, and the pencil drawing will be modeled, using lights and darks.
Gray Scale 1 (mini-assignment): Go through several magazines and collect samples of different grays. Next, arrange a group of seven going from light to dark and paste them on a piece of paper. Gray Scale of ten values: |
