Assignment # 4 – Redesigned Color Wheel

Gray Scale 2 (mini-assignment):

Using your gouache black and white paints, create a gray scale of ten values, going from white to black, with eight grays in between. Make sure you organize your chart in an aesthetic, logical way! It could be arranged in a line of squares, in a curve, etc. Be creative!

Gray Scale of ten values:

Read the Color Theory page first.

Create a new and interesting layout for the color wheel, showing the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, as well as 5 tints, tones, and shades of one of the 12 colors.

Make sure you organize your layout in an aesthetic, logical way, that maintains the information on the regular color wheel and the relationships between the colors. It could be arranged in a circle, a triangle, etc, but it must show the information accurately. Avoid using metaphor or trying to create layouts that look like an object. Instead concentrate on coming up with a design that helps inform us on the function of the colors and is interesting and attractive.

Once your layout is approved, transfer the design onto a 10 X 15 illustration board and use your gouache paints to color it appropriately, making sure your work is clean and well executed.
Be patient when you paint, and remember that presentation is king!
