Assignment # 1 – Layout Composition
Choose a word from a magazine or newspaper and and cut it out. In addition, choose one simple geometric shape (circle, triangle, etc.) to accompany your word.
Create four 4 " X 6 " rectangles on a sheet of paper. In them, sketch four different layouts using your word and shape. Make sure your word and shape differ significantly from one layout to another (change the scale, direction, position etc.) You may also crop and overlap your elements. Using only one per each element, assign the colors white, black, and gray to each of the elements.
Next, use a black crayon or charcoal to make rubbings of some interesting surfaces on sheets of paper. photocopy your textures and bring them to class.
In class, we will choose one of the layout and create a 6" X 9" finish in collage. this finish must be executed precisely and neatly!
