Assignment # 2 – Creating a graphic icon

Logos are an important part of a company's identity. They usually incorporate an image and text, and symbolize what the company is about. Logo images used to be complex and realistic, but with time they became simplified and stylized icons.

On a sheet of bristol paper, rule out four 3X3 inch rectangles. make sure they are equidistant and centered on the page. Choose on of the following objects: tea pot, cloths iron, wrist watch, or shoe. Render the object chosen as realistically and detailed as possible in the first rectangle on the right.

Next, make two new versions of your drawing simplifying the object more and more, until you achieve a graphic, two-tone, abstracted representation of your object.

In class, we will develop the forth rendering of the object. It must be very simple and done in black and white only. Make sure you have some ideas drawn on a separate piece of paper, before continuing to the forth version.

Create an enlargement of the final version of your object at double the size. It should be done in a 7 X 7 box in collage, using black construction paper.

Good Luck!
