Assignment # 5 – Creating a typographic portrait

Text is not only letters and words to be read, but also a block of color on a page. Different fonts at different sizes can be used to create different blocks of color.

Choose a famous person, and look up photos references with dramatic lighting. In class, we will break up the photo into areas of dark, medium, and light. Copy your divided picture using tracing paper; this will become your template to be used later.

Print out several pages of the text you've written about the person in different fonts, sizes, and weights, in order to create the desired blocks of dark, medium, and light, necessary for the portrait.

Next, you will cut and paste the appropriate pieces of text and recreate the photo in collage on illustration board. make sure your work is accurate and clean!

good luck!
