Course Syllabus:

This course immerses students in the process of planning, designing, and building web sites. The course covers pre-production planning, flow charts, site map creation, design mockups, and includes oral and written presentations of students’ ideas.
The course also covers the concepts and technical skills required to design and build web sites, including hand-coding HTML and CSS, optimizing images, layout design and more. Students use HTML editors, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Photoshop during the semester to design their web sites and manage them.

Objectives:

Develop good working habits for the design process and management of web sites. Learn fundamental tools like HTML, image optimization, CSS, JavaScript, and other web design technologies, and gain working knowledge of HTML Editors, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. Plan, design, and build a functioning web site.

Web-Enhanced:

This is a web-enhanced course, which means students need to maintain an active BCC email account, a CUNY Portal account, and use the Blackboard class web site on a regular basis in order to pass the course. In this Bb class site are all the materials and assignments of the course along with Discussion Boards, quizzes, and more.

Attendance:

It is crucial that you attend every class. In accordance with CUNY rules, more than two unexcused absences will result in debarment from the course. Excessive lateness will result in lowering of grade. Students must come to class prepared and meet all assignment deadlines.

Rules:

Students are expected to have a professional, serious attitude. Lateness and absences will not be tolerated; you must show up on time and to all classes. Assignments must be handed in by the deadline given and be up to professional standards; I expect you to treat your work with respect. This is a college-level course, designed to prepare you for a career in the commercial arts – you must be responsible, dedicated, and professional!

Grade Evaluation:

· Punctuality and attendance
· Participation in class discussions
· Application and exploration of design concepts and vocabulary
· Demonstration of creativity and understanding of the software
· Timely completion of all assignments

Portable USB Flash Drive, ZIP disks, and/or CD-R's for image transfer and backup
